An 18-year-old man has been found guilty of attempted murder following a stabbing on Kingsthorpe Road in Northampton, Northamptonshire. Alan Kelly was convicted on 20 March 2026 at Northampton Crown Court after a trial that lasted two weeks.
The incident happened on the evening of 5 February 2025 after a disagreement. The victim, a man in his 20s, was stabbed in the chest with such force that the knife went through his right lung and grazed his heart.
The victim survived the attack after receiving emergency first aid from a local shop and spending a long time in hospital. A second man, Arilleus Wright, previously admitted to carrying a knife in public and was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison.
Detective Sergeant Baz Hughes from Northamptonshire Police said the victim was very lucky the case did not become a murder investigation. The force has made stopping serious violence a priority through the Northamptonshire Serious Violence Prevention Partnership.
Kelly is now waiting to be sentenced for the crime on 19 June 2026. Detective Inspector Nicky McAllister said the police remain committed to tackling violence to keep the local community safe.
