Residents in Northampton, Northamptonshire, are being warned to secure loose garden furniture and prepare for sleet showers as wind gusts reach up to 37mph on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The Met Office forecast indicates a period of unsettled winter weather, with temperatures expected to fall to -1°C overnight.

This period of changeable weather follows a disruptive start to the year, with heavy snow and difficult travelling conditions expected to continue across parts of the UK later on Thursday and into Friday. While earlier systems like Storm Goretti caused significant disruption in January, the current cold snap is expected to bring further wintry hazards to the East Midlands.

Drivers should expect potential delays on major routes due to the freezing conditions and road maintenance. National Highways has confirmed that the A14 will face lane closures and diversions between junction 1 and junction 2 starting from February 19, 2026, as part of a wider maintenance programme that may complicate travel during the wintry weather.

The cold spell is forecast to be brief, with a warmer turn arriving by the weekend. Temperatures in the local area are expected to rise to a high of 14°C on Sunday, February 22, 2026, bringing much milder weather to the community.
