On 24 February 2026, Norwich City Council approved its budget for the 2026-27 year, which will fund new homes and community projects in Norwich, Norfolk. The spending plan is designed to support residents and improve local landmarks as the city continues to grow.
The council’s share of Council Tax is set to increase by 2.99 per cent, which means a typical Band D home will pay around nine pounds more each year. Despite this rise, the council confirmed it will still offer up to 100 per cent council tax support for families and individuals on the lowest incomes.
A significant portion of the funding will go towards building 1,100 new homes at Anglia Square, where half of the houses in the early stages will be affordable. The budget also covers improvements for Norwich Market and The Halls, alongside a project to provide 67 affordable homes at Mile Cross.
Councillor Mike Stonard, the leader of the council, explained that the budget focuses on making the city a better place to live through housing and regeneration. The plan also includes a new programme called Pride in Place, which will focus on improving local public spaces and community buildings.
