A 35-year-old man from Norwich has been banned from entering several shops across the city for the next two years following repeated shoplifting. The legal order was issued to John Price of Paragon Place by Norwich Magistrates’ Court on February 11, 2026, to help protect local businesses and staff in Norfolk.

Under the court order, Price is not allowed to enter any East of England Co-operative branches in the county. He is also barred from the Adnams store on Unthank Road, the Home Bargains on Westwick Street, the Aldi on Sprowston Road, and three Tesco stores on Dereham Road, Plumstead Road, and Cromer Road.

Officers from Norfolk Constabulary said this step was taken because persistent theft has a major impact on local businesses and the people who work there. In 2025, shoplifting in Norfolk hit a record high with over 6,100 reported crimes, which is a 13 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

The police are now using tougher measures to deal with retail crime, including the launch of facial recognition technology on February 13, 2026, to help spot repeat offenders in the city. If Price breaks the rules of his two-year ban, he can be arrested immediately and could face a prison sentence.
