Residents in Norwich, Norfolk, will head to the polls on May 7, 2026, after the government confirmed that local elections will go ahead as originally planned. This follows a decision on February 16, 2026, to withdraw an earlier plan that would have delayed the voting process until a later year.

Voters will choose representatives for all 84 divisions of the Norfolk County Council. On the same day, people living in the city will also vote for candidates to fill one-third of the seats at Norwich City Council.

The government previously tried to put the elections on hold to let councils focus on plans to change how the local area is run and move more powers from London to the region. This reversal happened after legal concerns were raised and a formal challenge was made by the Reform UK party.

Council leaders have confirmed that money to run the election has already been set aside in the budget. In the coming weeks, residents should look out for polling cards in the post and campaign leaflets as candidates begin their work to win votes before the May deadline.
