The Oxford University Museum of Natural History (OUMNH) in Oxford, Oxfordshire, will host a free family Super Science Saturday on Saturday 7 March 2026. The drop-in event lets children (recommended for ages 8+) and their parents meet researchers and take part in hands‑on activities without advance booking.
The fair is the local opening event for British Science Week 2026, themed “Curiosity: what’s your question?” (6–15 March 2026). Visitors will be able to explore the Museum’s neo‑Gothic main court, where interactive stalls and live demonstrations will be run by University of Oxford researchers from departments including Biology, Earth Sciences and Physics.
According to the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, the day is intended to give local families free access to university research and public engagement activities. The activities will be staged alongside the Museum’s permanent dinosaur and fossil displays and other collections.
The event is one of the first major public‑engagement programmes under the Museum’s new Director, Dr Gavin J. Svenson, who took up the post in September 2025. The Museum’s historical mission statement describes the building as a “public laboratory, a place where the lines between research, teaching, and public engagement are intentionally blurred.”
Families can drop in at any time between 10:00 and 16:00 on the day (details per the Museum’s programme). Janet Stott, Deputy Director and Head of Public Engagement, said the fair is where researchers can share their exciting work through fun activities for all the family.
