Oxford Foodbank Pauses Services For Easter Holiday Weekend

The Oxford Community Emergency Foodbank will stop its work during the upcoming Easter bank holiday weekend in Oxford, Oxfordshire. The charity confirmed it will be closed on Good Friday, 3 April 2026, and Easter Monday, 6 April 2026.

The closure affects all three of the charity’s cafes, which usually provide food parcels to people in Barton, Littlemore, and at St Francis Church. These parcels contain enough balanced food to last for three days, with fresh fruit and vegetables supplied by the Oxford Food Hub.

Residents who rely on this service must have a referral from a professional, such as a doctor, a health visitor, or the Citizens Advice Bureau. It is not possible for people to ask for food directly from this specific foodbank without a referral from one of these agencies.

Finding other help might be difficult during the holiday as Oxford Mutual Aid is also currently closed. That service had to shut its doors on 23 March 2026 because of unexpected repair work needed on its building.

Recent data from the Trussell Trust shows that demand for food help in the South East is 53 per cent higher than it was before the pandemic. Families with children are the most affected, receiving over half of all food parcels given out in the region.

For those who need food urgently while the main foodbanks are closed, Oxford City Council lists several community fridges that are open daily. These fridges do not require a referral and can be found at locations including the Westgate Hotel and Rose Hill.
