Residents in Oxford, Oxfordshire, should prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures and the possibility of snow showers starting on Friday, 13 February 2026. The latest Met Office outlook suggests temperatures will turn colder towards the end of the week, increasing the risk of overnight frost, icy surfaces and disruption to morning travel.

The Met Office forecast for Oxford says a northerly airflow is expected to move across the country, replacing recent milder conditions with colder air and bringing a risk of wintry showers and overnight frost that could affect commuters and school runs through the weekend. Oxfordshire County Council said its winter service teams are ready to respond. The council stations a fleet of 30 gritting vehicles at three winter depots to treat primary county roads and major commuter routes.

Maintenance work, including snow clearance and refilling grit bins, is carried out by the county’s highways maintenance contractor, Milestone Infrastructure, under the contract that commenced on 1 April 2025.

Drivers are encouraged to check for ice alerts and travel advice before setting off, as the mix of moisture and cold air can make rural routes particularly hazardous. Individual schools will make their own decisions about closures in the event of disruption, with headteachers commonly deciding in the early morning (around 06:00–07:30) on the day of any snowfall.
