Oxfordshire County Council has issued a firm reminder that all residents must book an appointment before visiting any of the seven household waste recycling centres in Oxfordshire. The council is highlighting the policy to ensure the sites run smoothly and to help manage traffic across the county.
According to Oxfordshire County Council, there were more than 58,000 visits to the centres between 14 January 2026 and 1 March 2026. While about 74 per cent of visitors used the booking system during this time, a significant number of people are still turning up without an appointment.
Councillor Judy Roberts, the cabinet member for environment, said the system is designed to reduce queues and improve how waste is separated for recycling. The booking requirement will also help the council manage more visitors at other sites when the Redbridge recycling centre closes for around three months for safety work later in 2026.
Residents can book their slots through an online portal or by using a telephone service for those without internet access. The council also confirmed that people visiting from outside the county will be charged a £15 fee to use the recycling facilities.
