Thames Valley Police are asking for witnesses to come forward following an assault on Cowley Road, Oxford, which took place on January 1, 2026. A 22-year-old man was arrested on February 14 and remains in police custody as of February 16, 2026, after being charged in connection with the investigation.

Officers issued a formal re-appeal for information to reach people who may have seen the event during the New Year’s Day bank holiday. The Oxford Central Neighbourhood Policing Team is specifically looking for dashcam footage or mobile phone recordings from residents and commuters who were in the Cowley Road area at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police by calling the non-emergency 101 number. Investigators are working to establish the full circumstances of the assault, which left two men with serious injuries, and believe additional public evidence is needed to help finalise the case.

The area has seen increased police activity in early 2026 as officers work to improve local street safety following a series of incidents. Members of the community who may have been present during the New Year’s Day assault but did not initially speak to officers are urged to get in touch with the investigation team.
