Residents in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, will have the chance to see Academy Award-winner Dame Helen Mirren on the big screen when the Key Theatre hosts a special screening of The Audience on March 5, 2026. This National Theatre Live event brings a high-profile West End production directly to the local community, allowing theatre-goers to watch the play without the need for travel to London.

The play was written by Peter Morgan and depicts the private weekly meetings between Queen Elizabeth II and her prime ministers over sixty years. This is the first time the production has returned to British cinemas in more than ten years following its success at the Olivier and Tony Awards.

The screening will take place in the Studio Theatre while the main auditorium remains closed for a £2.2 million roof replacement project. While the main stage is undergoing work to fix safety issues with the building’s concrete, the studio and café remain fully open for regular public events.

Tickets for the evening start at £14 and can be booked through the theatre box office. The event is part of a programme by National Theatre Live to bring famous stage performances to regional audiences across the country.
