A 28-year-old man from Eaton Ford in St Neots was sentenced to three years and four months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court in Cambridgeshire on February 19, 2026, for grooming a teenage girl. Nam Vu, who met the girl while volunteering at a church in Cambridge, pleaded guilty to six offences including sexual communication with a child and sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary discovered the scale of the abuse after seizing and checking the man’s phone. Investigators found more than 8,000 pages of messages sent during a six-week period in 2024, most of which were sexual in nature.
The girl’s parents first became concerned and contacted the police after they found deleted screenshots on her phone and a handwritten note about sexual activity inside a book. In addition to his prison sentence, the court placed Vu on the sex offenders register indefinitely and issued an indefinite restraining order.
Detective Constable Lara Wycherley praised the parents for being alert and encouraged other families to speak with their children about who they are messaging online. The police also noted that parents can use a background check scheme, known as Sarah’s Law, to ask for information about people who have contact with their children.
