So far, more than 2,300 badges have been issued to approximately 1,200 young people across the region. The initiative is run in partnership with the Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce and uses a digital platform to link the badges directly to current job data.
Mayor Paul Bristow said the scheme is part of a broader effort to support the one in seven young people in the area who are not currently in education, employment, or training. The system aims to make the hiring process smoother for local businesses by providing a reliable way to judge if an applicant is ready for the workplace.
According to the Region of Learning initiative, these badges provide a digital alternative to traditional paper qualifications. They can be shared on professional websites or attached to digital applications to help local jobseekers stand out to employers during the recruitment process.
