Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is launching Patient Experience Week across the region from 27 April to 1 May 2026 to gather feedback from local residents about their healthcare services.
During the week, staff will visit hospitals, GP practices, and community locations in Peterborough, Cambridge, Huntingdon, and Wisbech. The organisation is encouraging patients, carers, and visitors to speak directly with their representatives to share their views, which will help shape future local care services.
As a community interest company with statutory powers to collect public experiences, the group uses this information to identify wider themes that influence how healthcare is planned and delivered. These efforts come as the healthcare system faces ongoing pressure, following resident doctor industrial action that took place across England from 7 to 13 April 2026.
The engagement initiative also follows a February 2025 inspection by the Care Quality Commission, which downgraded the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust’s rating for leadership from Good to Requires Improvement. While systemic challenges remain, previous outreach efforts have highlighted successes, with visits to community diagnostic centres in Ely and Wisbech last August revealing positive patient feedback regarding shorter waiting times, modern facilities, and attentive staff.
The organisation is led by Chief Executive Officer Jess Slater, who brings 19 years of experience in the voluntary sector, and a Board of Directors chaired by Jonathan Jelley MBE JP. Residents are encouraged to engage with staff during the upcoming visits to ensure their local perspective is heard.
