Several large potholes were reported on Kettering Road in Wothorpe, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, on February 14, 2026, posing a potential hazard for the local school run. The road defects are located directly next to Stamford Junior School, where children between the ages of two and 11 attend classes.
According to the Peterborough City Council online reporting portal, three separate reports were logged late on Saturday evening. One of the potholes is described as being over one metre wide, while another appears to involve a damaged or collapsed drain.
Under official guidelines from Peterborough City Council, emergency road issues should be made safe within 2 to 24 hours of being reported. These reports come after the council recently approved a 15 per cent cut to its road maintenance budget as part of a wider plan to bridge a 23 million pound funding gap.
Local drivers and parents are advised to be careful as the large holes could cause damage to vehicles or endanger people on bicycles. If the defects are not treated as immediate emergencies, council documents show that high priority repairs can take up to two weeks to be completed.
