On 19 March 2026, Mayor Paul Bristow met with government ministers in Bristol to secure new money for housing and building projects across Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The meeting was part of a wider effort to advocate for regional funding that will support local growth.
The Mayor is working with Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes and the leader of the local council, Cllr Shabina Qayyum, to request a new development group. They have formally asked Matthew Pennycook MP, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning, to help set up this body.
This group, known as a Mayoral Development Corporation, is intended to speed up the work being done to improve the city centre. It would help the area overcome staffing and resource limits that currently make it difficult for the local council to manage large-scale building projects.
The Mayor anticipates that he will be able to announce more details about the funding for these housing and building projects in the near future. These efforts are part of a plan to ensure the region has the necessary investment to improve local infrastructure.
