The Nene Park Trust has announced a new programme of family activities for the February half-term at Ferry Meadows Country Park in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. Beginning the week of 16 February 2026, the week-long programme offers children and parents the chance to try archery and climbing or learn about the city’s Roman past through craft workshops.

Archery and climbing sessions will be run by Nene Outdoors Watersports & Activity Centre to help local families stay active during the school holidays. The emphasis on climbing follows reporting by the Peterborough Telegraph on the Trust’s longer-term plans to develop improved climbing facilities at Ferry Meadows, including proposals for a Lakeside Activity Centre and an Olympic‑standard climbing wall.

For those interested in the past, the Trust is hosting Roman-themed craft sessions that explore the Nene Valley’s heritage. Ferry Meadows lies close to the site of the Roman town of Durobrivae; local archaeological organisations (see Peterborough Archaeology / Nene Valley Archaeological Trust) have documented extensive Roman remains in the valley.

The park is managed by the registered charity Nene Park Trust which is responsible for around 1,725 acres of parkland. The Trust has introduced paid activities such as pay-and-play sessions to help offset rising costs after reporting financial pressures and staff redundancies in 2024, according to reports.

Most activities will be available as pay-and-play or pre-booked sessions throughout the week. The Trust says it aims to provide affordable ways for the community to enjoy the outdoors and learn more about their local environment.
