Residents and visitors in Peterborough have new tools to explore the city following the release of four guides designed to highlight local history and scenic routes. The Hereward Community Rail Partnership, in collaboration with the Peterborough Civic Society, launched the series of maps on 6 May 2026 to encourage walking and cycling across the region.

The new resources include a heritage trail featuring 24 of the society’s blue plaques, a dedicated city walking and cycling map, a riverside and meadows guide, and a broader map covering the area between Peterborough and Stamford, including Burghley House and the John Clare Countryside. These guides are intended to promote sustainable travel by highlighting attractions that are easily accessible via the rail network.

The project received funding through the CrossCountry Trains Community Engagement Fund. The partnership hopes the maps will provide helpful options for those arriving at Peterborough station, which acts as a major hub on the East Coast Main Line and serves as the western terminus for the Hereward Line.

Physical copies of the maps are now available for collection at Peterborough Museum, Peterborough Cathedral, and the Peterborough Town Hall. They can also be obtained directly from the Hereward Community Rail Partnership or the Peterborough Civic Society.
