Peterborough residents who use heating oil to warm their homes can now apply for a one-off payment of £250 to help manage the impact of rising fuel costs. The new support scheme, launched by Peterborough City Council, is aimed at households facing financial pressure due to the recent surge in oil prices.

To qualify for the payment, applicants must demonstrate they have spent more than £500 on heating oil since 16 March 2026. Additionally, households must have total savings of less than £1,000 and provide proof of address to verify their eligibility.

The council has advised that funding for this initiative is limited. Residents who meet the criteria are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible through the official Oil Crisis Payment Scheme page on the council’s website.
