The Peterborough Lido in Cambridgeshire will open for the 2026 season on Saturday 28 March 2026, marking its earliest start in recent years to celebrate its 90th anniversary. This special opening weekend allows families and swimmers to use the outdoor facility nearly two months earlier than usual to coincide with the start of the Easter holidays.

The site features three heated outdoor pools including a 50-metre main pool, a teaching pool, and a paddling pool. These heated facilities allow residents to swim outdoors even during the cooler spring temperatures expected in late March.

This year’s early opening follows a decision by Peterborough City Council to keep the facility running after it was almost closed in 2025. The council had previously considered shutting the site to help fill a 23 million pound budget gap but changed its mind after a large public response.

According to the Friends of Peterborough Lido, community members are very pleased to have access to the heated water from the end of March. The facility, which was built in 1936, has also benefited from new investment in pool covers designed to reduce heating costs and save money.
