A 31-year-old man from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, was found guilty of murdering his mother at their family home on 10 March 2026. Gregory Coulson killed 67-year-old Carmen Coulson at the house they shared in Lingwood Park, Longthorpe.

According to Cambridgeshire Constabulary, the attack happened on the evening of 8 February 2025. Although Gregory Coulson called emergency services the next morning claiming intruders were responsible, the jury rejected this story after hearing he had already confessed to police.

During his interviews with detectives, Coulson admitted he was responsible for the death and cited his heavy use of cocaine and alcohol as factors. He told officers that he had been unhappy for a long time and felt like he had to do something because he had simply had enough.

The 67-year-old victim was stabbed to death inside the property. Investigators noted that while the defendant initially tried to hide what had happened, his own statements during the police investigation proved he was the attacker.

Following the unanimous guilty verdict, Gregory Coulson has been kept in custody. He is currently waiting to be sentenced for the murder, with a court hearing set to take place on 17 April 2026.
