A Peterborough man has been jailed for 42 weeks following a dangerous police pursuit through the city centre that ended with his arrest for drink driving. Liam Monds, 33, of Henson Drive, Hempstead, was sentenced at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on 1 May 2026 after admitting to a string of driving offences.
The incident began at approximately 10:30pm on 29 April, when Cambridgeshire Constabulary traffic officers spotted Monds driving a silver Volkswagen Golf. Monds drove erratically, circling roundabouts multiple times, performing abrupt lane changes, and exceeding the speed limit. When officers attempted to pull him over in London Road, Fletton, he refused to stop. The pursuit eventually concluded in Melrose Drive, Fletton, where Monds was arrested following a short foot chase. He subsequently failed a breathalyser test.
Monds pleaded guilty to drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, failing to wear a seatbelt, and resisting an officer. In addition to his prison sentence, he has been disqualified from driving for three years. PC Sam Shepherd, who investigated the case, stated that there is no excuse for getting behind the wheel while intoxicated and noted that Monds’ manner of driving put members of the public at risk.
This conviction follows a previous incident in September 2025, for which Monds was jailed for 30 weeks for dangerous driving near Stanground Academy. In light of this case, police are reminding the community of their dedicated, confidential hotline at 0800 032 0845. The line is available 24/7 for residents to report anyone they believe to be driving under the influence.
