Peterborough City Council in Cambridgeshire has opened emergency accommodation starting February 17, 2026, to help people sleeping on the streets during the freezing weather. The council triggered its emergency weather support because overnight temperatures are expected to drop to zero degrees Celsius or below.

The emergency service will run every night until it is reviewed on February 20, 2026. People confirmed to be living on the streets will be offered a warm place to stay, along with bedding and hot drinks.

The support is organised through the Safer Off the Streets partnership, which brings together the local council and various charities. The Garden House in the Minster Precincts serves as the main hub where these services are coordinated.

Residents who see someone sleeping in the cold are encouraged to report their location using the StreetLink website or mobile app. These reports notify local outreach teams so they can find individuals and offer them transport to a safe place to stay.
