Residents in Peterborough are preparing for a week of hot and sunny weather, with temperatures expected to climb to 31°C by Monday, 25 May 2026. The Met Office has forecast temperatures reaching 28°C this Friday, with conditions expected to remain warm throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat health alert for the East of England region, which remains in place from Friday, 22 May until Wednesday, 27 May. This warm spell is driven by high pressure over the country, which causes sinking air to warm as it compresses.

While enjoying the sunny weather, residents are encouraged to take precautions. The Met Office reports that UV levels will be high throughout the week, particularly during the midday hours. During these times, people are advised to seek shade, wear sunscreen, and cover up.

Hay fever sufferers should also plan accordingly, as pollen levels in the area are expected to change over the coming days. Pollen counts will start at low levels on Friday and Saturday, rise to moderate on Sunday and Monday, and reach a high level by Tuesday.

Nationally, the heatwave could see temperature records broken across the UK. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steve Kocher noted that temperatures in parts of southern England and the Midlands could reach 33°C on Monday, potentially exceeding the current May record of 32.8°C, set in 1922 and 1944.
