The Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG), supported by the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce, launched a public consultation on 18 March 2026 to help shape the future of events at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. The initiative invites residents, business owners, and event organisers to share their vision for leisure, entertainment, and business activities on a 50-acre portion of the site.
The 165-acre site has historically hosted major public events, including the East of England Show and speedway racing, but these ceased as the site shifted toward a proposed redevelopment model. While the land is owned by the East of England Agricultural Society (EEAS), AEPG acts as the land promoter for the site, which is currently not being used for the large-scale gatherings it was once known for.
Earlier efforts to transform the land into a £50 million leisure resort with 1,500 homes recently collapsed. The development failed to progress because the landowner and Peterborough City Council did not complete a Section 106 agreement—a legal contract ensuring developers provide financial contributions for local infrastructure like schools and healthcare.
Local people can now provide input specifically regarding the 50-acre event space to ensure it serves the needs of the city. This initiative is seen as a way to restart discussions about the site’s community and commercial value following the failure of previous planning applications.
