Peterborough City Council officially opened the completed Lincoln Road regeneration works on 23 February 2026, marking the end of a major project to improve the local area in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The council leader, Councillor Shabina Qayyum, joined residents and local business owners to celebrate the improvements along the busy stretch between Windmill Street and Searjeant Street. However Councillor Angus Ellis, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, is the primary spokesperson for the project completion.

The project finished ahead of its original target date, taking less than a year to complete after work began in April 2025. The improvements cost around £3.4 million, which included a £2.4 million contribution from the central government’s Towns Fund.

People walking and cycling through the area will now find new raised pedestrian crossings, seating, and cycle stands. The work also included better paving and a new zebra crossing near Alma Road to make the street safer and more welcoming for shoppers.

The council worked with its highways partner, M Group Ltd, to deliver the changes. Local business owners have already noted that the new look provides a cleaner and better environment for the community and its visitors.
