Peterborough City Council is giving away free wellbeing bags to local families from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 February 2026 to mark Children’s Mental Health Week in Cambridgeshire. Families can visit Peterborough Town Hall on Bridge Street during Town Hall opening hours to collect a plain fabric bag they can decorate and keep. The initiative aims to help children identify people and items that make them feel safe when they are worried or feel unsafe.

The project aligns with the national Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 theme, ‘This is My Place,’ announced by the charity Place2Be to promote a sense of belonging. Parents are encouraged to help their children fill the bags with comforting items such as photos, a squeeze or fidget toy, a notepad or contact details for trusted adults. Bags are available to collect from the Town Hall throughout the week of 9–15 February 2026 during normal opening hours (check the council website for exact times).

While reporting by Cambs News documents that the council is managing significant financial pressures, council materials and the event framing emphasise low-cost, preventative community activities aimed at supporting vulnerable people and helping families start conversations about mental health. For residents seeking more support, the Keep Your Head directory provides a centralised list of mental health services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
