The Met Office has forecast widespread rain and strong wind gusts for Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, starting on the evening of Thursday 26 February 2026. This period of wet weather is expected to last through the weekend and into early March, potentially leading to travel delays for people in the area.
Rain and drizzle are predicted to become widespread across the city by 7pm on Thursday, with some heavier bursts possible and wind gusts reaching up to 34 miles per hour. These conditions are likely to cause spray and standing water on major roads, which may affect drivers using the A47 between Upton and the city.
The Environment Agency is currently monitoring water levels as flood warnings were in place for parts of England on Thursday morning. If river levels rise significantly, the North Bank Road between Peterborough and Whittlesey may be closed by Peterborough City Council to keep road users safe.
Despite the rain and wind, temperatures are expected to stay much warmer than the usual average for this time of year. Daytime highs could reach 15 degrees Celsius by Monday 2 March 2026 according to the Met Office, nearly double the typical February high of 8 degrees Celsius recorded in climate data from Weather Spark.
