A 41-year-old man from Eaglesthorpe has been sent to prison for 16 weeks after a series of meat thefts from supermarkets in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. Abid Hussain admitted to seven counts of shoplifting at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on 19 February 2026.
Between 1 February and 10 February 2026, Hussain stole nearly £900 worth of meat from the Aldi shop in Flaxland, Bretton. According to the Cambridgeshire Constabulary, he would fill a shopping basket with products and escape through the fire exit without paying.
Hussain also targeted a OneStop shop in New England on 17 February and 18 February 2026. During these visits, he took £96.50 worth of meat and several bottles of washing-up liquid.
These arrests were part of a crackdown by the Spree Offender Team, which focuses on people who commit many crimes in a short time. Another man was also jailed in the same week for targeting the same Aldi branch seven times.
