Peterborough City Council in Cambridgeshire started a public consultation on 2 March 2026 to ask residents for their views on plans for a new £36.5 million leisure centre and swimming pool. This feedback will help shape the final design and decide which facilities are included to best serve the community.

The current plans for the site feature an eight-lane 25-metre pool, a 20-metre learner pool with a moveable floor, and a 150-station gym. The development is also expected to include a cafe, two studios for classes, and a soft play area for families.

This project will replace the former Regional Fitness and Swimming Centre, which was knocked down in 2024 after surveys found dangerous asbestos and unsafe concrete. Peterborough City Council has already secured £20 million from a central government fund but still needs to find another £16.5 million to complete the work.

Council leader Cllr Shabina Qayyum said that feedback is important to ensure the new building is easy for older people to use and provides the right activities for local youth. Residents can share their thoughts through an online survey until 29 March 2026, with construction expected to begin in early 2027.
