Drivers in Poole should prepare for upcoming road improvements as the BCP Council has added three local routes to its active resurfacing programme. The work will focus on Poole Road between Queens Road and Seamoor Road, The Avenue from Pinecliff Road to Buccleuch Road, and Ashley Road near the Seaview Roundabout.

These projects are part of a broader effort to maintain the 1,250km of roads and pavements across the region. While specific start dates for the three new Poole sites have yet to be confirmed, the council expects the work to take place during the spring and summer of 2026. Officials aim to reduce traffic disruption by using an accelerated resurfacing method, which utilizes quick-setting warm mix asphalt to complete repairs in three to four days.

The new work follows the completion of other infrastructure projects, such as the resurfacing of the A35 Stony Lane roundabout in Christchurch, which wrapped up in November 2025. According to Cllr Andy Hadley, who serves as the portfolio holder for climate response, energy and environment and oversees highways maintenance, the council is committed to making daily travel easier for residents. During the past year, the council successfully filled more than 2,500 potholes, with a 12.7 per cent reduction in reported pothole cases compared to the previous year.

Funding for these improvements comes from a £7.7 million budget approved for highway maintenance during the 2026/27 period. Of that total, £5.8 million is specifically dedicated to resurfacing, patching, and other treatments designed to improve the long-term condition of roads. Looking further ahead, the council has outlined a four-year investment plan that proposes spending £38 million on highway maintenance by the 2029/30 financial year.

Residents living near these sites should be aware that ongoing work, such as utility repairs, may influence the timing of these resurfacing projects. For example, SGN is currently carrying out gas connection work on The Avenue, which is expected to continue until 24 April 2026. The council continues to look at other locations for future consideration, including Seamoor Road and sections of Ringwood Road, as part of its ongoing multi-year strategy.
