The Met Office has warned that stormy weather systems from the Atlantic are expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Poole, Dorset, from February 18 to February 27, 2026. This period of unsettled weather is likely to cause travel delays and flooding in low-lying parts of the community.
According to the Environment Agency, flooding caused by rising water levels underground is considered probable during this time. Ground levels across the region are already very wet following earlier storms this month, which means the land may not be able to soak up any more rainfall.
Specific areas identified as being at higher risk include Lower Hamworthy, Poole Quay, and the Old Town near Hunger Hill. Local residents in these spots should prepare for rainwater that could overwhelm urban drains and cause difficult driving conditions.
The stormy weather will also create rough conditions along the coast and inside Poole Harbour. People visiting West Quay or Lower Hamworthy are being told to expect high tide levels and spray while the strong winds continue.
This outlook is possible because the Met Office recently started providing more detailed rainfall and wind forecasts up to two weeks in advance. Officials are encouraging everyone in the area to keep checking for updates as the stormy weather gets closer.
