Residents in Poole can now view the full list of candidates standing for election to the newly formed Poole Town Council, which will hold its first vote on 7 May 2026. The BCP Council has confirmed that voters across 15 wards will elect 21 councillors to represent their local interests.

The establishment of this new town council follows a decision by the BCP Council on 14 October 2025, which passed with a vote of 36 to 24, with seven abstentions. This move is designed to replace the current system of Charter Trustees, which has handled Poole’s civic traditions since the three local authorities merged in 2019. The new body will take on responsibilities for community facilities and local grants.

Funding for the council will come partly from a new charge added to residents’ council tax bills. For those living in a Band D property, this is estimated to cost £32.59 per year.

The election process has seen a variety of political groups put forward candidates, including the Liberal Democrats, the Labour Party, the Green Party, Reform UK, and the local Poole People party, alongside several independent candidates. The BCP Conservative Group has confirmed it will not be participating in the election, having previously voiced opposition to the creation of the town council.

Residents who wish to participate must ensure they are registered to vote by 20 April 2026. Those who require a postal vote must submit their application by 5pm on 21 April 2026, while the deadline for proxy vote applications is 5pm on 28 April 2026. Further details on the candidates and the registration process are available through the BCP Council website.
