Bus passengers in Poole face weeks of disruption from 13 July as major resurfacing work closes a section of Ringwood Road in one direction until 8 August. The morebus routes 14, 16, and 17 will follow an extended diversion, while route X6 will also be altered, after BCP Council confirmed the road surface was in far worse condition than expected and requires full-depth reconstruction.
The closure, affecting the outbound carriageway away from Poole between Tesco Express and Old Wareham Road roundabout, means buses will be rerouted via Seaview Road, Animal Kingdom, Dorchester Road, Oakdale Road, Dorset Way, and Old Wareham Road. Route X6 will leave Ringwood Road at Animal Kingdom to join Dorchester Road. Passengers travelling towards Poole are told to use stops on Seaview Road to catch the diverted services, as Newtown Tesco, Old Wareham Road, Newtown Liberal Hall, Haymoor Road, and Dale Road will not be served in the usual direction.
Three nights of full overnight closures in both directions will then follow on 10–11, 11–12, and 12–13 August, again affecting the 14, 16, and 17. The last X6 bus of the evening will run through as normal on those nights. The reconstruction is part of a £17.5 million scheme funded by the government’s Transforming Cities Fund to improve sustainable travel along the Ringwood Road corridor between Hunt Road and Mountbatten roundabout. The wider project is adding new bus lanes, a two-way cycle track, and upgraded bus shelters.
