Residents in Poole should prepare for travel disruptions next week as BCP Council begins a series of temporary road closures for essential asphalt preservation work. Starting the week of 6 April 2026, the local authority will carry out maintenance on several well-used routes to slow road surface deterioration and extend their lifespan.
In Poole, specific roads have been marked for these improvements. Herbert Avenue will be closed from 8 April to 10 April, between 9:30am and 4pm each day. During this time, the Rossmore Leisure Centre will remain open to the public, though access instructions will change. Visitors should approach the centre from the Ringwood Road direction on 8 April and the morning of 9 April. After this point, all traffic will be redirected to enter via Alder Road.
Other areas in the vicinity will also see work in the coming days. Phased road closures will affect the A341 Magna Road and Queen Anne Drive from 11 April to 12 April, with restrictions in place between 8am and 6pm. Additionally, the B3369 Sandbanks Road, specifically the section from Park Road to Pottery Road, will be closed on 17 April between 9:30am and 4pm. Further maintenance is planned for several roads in the Wallisdown area, including Chandos Avenue, Heathfield Avenue, Langside Avenue, and Julyan Avenue, with work beginning on 13 April.
Matti Raudsepp, the council’s Director of Customer and Business Delivery, noted that this preservation technique provides a cost-effective and quick layer of protection for the road network. The council is responsible for maintaining 780 miles of roads and pavements across the region. To support these efforts, more than £7.7 million has been budgeted for highways maintenance between April 2026 and March 2027.
Local motorists are advised that all work is weather-dependent and timelines may be adjusted if conditions change. These improvements follow a productive year for the council’s maintenance team, which repaired 6,274 defects across the area in the previous year, contributing to a 12.7 per cent reduction in reported potholes.
