Residents in Portsmouth are invited to attend the annual mayor-making ceremony on 19 May 2026, where new civic leadership will be officially installed at the Portsmouth Guildhall.

During the event, the new Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor will be sworn in. The ceremony will feature the traditional presentation of the Keys to the City and the Portsmouth Sword, which serve as symbols of the city’s historic relationship with the Royal Navy.

In addition to the installation, Portsmouth City Council will present civic awards to individuals and organisations recognised for their meaningful contributions to the local community. The ceremony serves as a highlight in the local calendar, particularly as the city marks the 100th anniversary of its city status, which was first granted in 1926.

Free tickets for the ceremony are now available on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents can collect tickets from the Cosham, Central, or Southsea libraries, or the Guildhall Box Office. Online ticket requests must be submitted by 1 May 2026.

The ceremony will begin at 10:00 am. Guests are asked to be seated by 9:30 am.
