The Mountbatten Leisure Centre in Portsmouth is set to undergo a significant upgrade, with BH Live announcing a £750,000 investment to redesign the site’s fitness facilities. The project will bring 130 new workout stations, dedicated recovery spaces, and advanced technology areas to the city’s flagship centre.
To facilitate these improvements, the gym, health suite, gym changing rooms, and pool spectator balcony will temporarily close for approximately four weeks beginning Monday 8 June 2026. This work is part of a broader commitment to local health and wellbeing, following a newly agreed 10-year partnership extension between the operator and Portsmouth City Council.
During the closure, current members are encouraged to use alternative facilities at the Pyramids Centre, Wimbledon Park Sports Centre, and Charter Community Sports Centre. To support users during the transition, a new workout space at Wimbledon Park and refreshed facilities at Charter will be available from 17 June 2026.
The renovation will include equipment supplied by Precor and the introduction of EGYM technology. This system uses RFID wristbands to automatically adjust equipment settings for individual users and track their fitness progress in real time.
This project is part of a larger effort by the council, which has invested more than £40 million in local sport and leisure facilities over the past decade. The partnership extension also includes future plans for a new leisure centre at Bransbury Park and additional improvements across the city, such as the introduction of Reformer Pilates at the Pyramids Centre.
