The historic Hilsea Lido in Portsmouth, Hampshire, will officially reopen to the public on 2 May 2026. This reopening follows a major project to fix and update the outdoor swimming spot just in time for the summer months.

The refurbishment cost roughly £7.75 million and was paid for by a government grant for community improvements. According to Portsmouth City Council, the work included a full repair of the 67-metre pool and the restoration of its historic fountain.

New facilities at the site include outdoor changing rooms, showers, and a sauna for visitors to use. The lido will be run by Sea Lanes Brighton in partnership with South Downs Leisure.

The event marks the 90th anniversary of the lido, which originally opened to the city in 1935. Local leaders hope the updated facility will act as a hub for health and wellness by providing affordable swimming and community events throughout the year.
