On February 10, 2026, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust opened public nominations for the 2026 Delivering Excellence Awards, specifically the People’s Choice category, inviting patients and families to recognise staff at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, Hampshire. The People’s Choice category gives patients and their families the opportunity to thank teams or individuals who cared for them and is the only awards category decided by patients and the public rather than judged internally.
Anyone who has received care at a PHU site in the past year — including inpatients and outpatients at Queen Alexandra Hospital or its peripheral sites — can nominate clinical and non-clinical staff (doctors, nurses, porters, cleaners and others). Nominations can be submitted via the Trust website, by scanning QR codes displayed on posters in hospital wards, or by completing paper forms available at the hospital’s main reception.
Penny Emerit, Chief Executive of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, said the awards “give us the opportunity to thank our staff and recognise the dedication and commitment they bring to work every single day.” The awards form part of the Trust’s Delivering Excellence improvement programme, which focuses on improving care and making sure staff feel valued for their efforts.
Past winners have included the Paediatric Oncology team and staff working in urgent and emergency care, recognised for going the extra mile. The Trust serves around 675,000 residents across Portsmouth and south‑east Hampshire, all of whom are invited to share their stories of outstanding care.
