Bus passengers in Portsmouth should prepare for service disruptions throughout June 2026 as Portsmouth City Council carries out essential road resurfacing works. These projects will result in overnight closures at the Portsbridge Roundabout and a significant diversion for routes 3 and 7.

The Portsbridge Roundabout will face overnight closures from 9pm to 5am as part of a wider road improvement programme. Southbound traffic will be affected from 1 June to 3 June, with bus services diverting via Eastern Road and Anchorage Road. During these hours, the Donaldson Road and Hilsea & Coach and Horses stops will be closed. Northbound traffic will then face closures from 8 June to 11 June, impacting several stops including Stanley Road, Knox Road, and Hilsea Lido, with services diverted via the M275.

From 10 June until 26 July, a complete closure of Lake Road will force permanent diversions for First Bus services 3 and 7. Buses will bypass Kingston Road and Lake Road, instead turning at Kingston Crescent to serve Mile End Road. Passengers who rely on these routes are advised to use alternative stops along the diversion path and to allow extra time for their journeys.

Beyond the immediate roadworks, First Bus has announced broader updates to the network starting 6 June 2026. These include improved Sunday service frequencies on routes 5, E1, and E2, and the withdrawal of service 9A, with those journeys now incorporated into service 9. Additionally, the PR3 summer timetable will see increased frequency on weekends. Residents are encouraged to check the company website for specific travel updates and further diversion information.
