Rochford Council has confirmed that the historic Rayleigh Windmill in Essex will reopen for the 2026 season on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. The landmark site offers residents a chance to explore local history and visit the museum housed within the more than 200-year-old building.
The Rayleigh Windmill will be open to the public on Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays between 1pm and 4pm. Entry to the site remains free, although the council suggests a minimum donation of £1 per person to help with the ongoing maintenance of the historic structure.
Built in 1809, the Grade II listed tower mill is a Visit England Quality Assured Visitor Attraction that has previously won a “Hidden Gem” award. Visitors can take part in local history quizzes and learn about the heritage of the area, including the nearby Rayleigh Mount which is the site of an old Norman castle.
People planning a trip are encouraged to check the council website for any specific dates when the building might be closed to the public. The venue is frequently booked for private events and weddings throughout the spring and summer months.
