Families in Rayleigh, Essex, can now access weekly maths and English tutoring at The Mill Arts & Events Centre every Monday and Tuesday. These new study sessions offer a local after‑school option for students and help turn the town’s cultural hub into a regular educational resource.

The sessions are run by a local Kumon franchise/instructor in partnership with Rochford District Council’s Leisure & Cultural Services team, and cater for children from pre‑school age up to 18 years old. Students attend for 40 to 50 minutes in individual study slots between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to work on personalised learning plans under the supervision of a certified instructor and assistants.

Rochford District Council and venue managers say using the space for regular classes is part of a plan to make the building more useful for the whole community. The Mill was previously at risk of redevelopment around 2020 but has since been retained as a community asset and now hosts a range of bookings, including fitness classes (such as Pilates and Zumba) and occasional health clinics alongside these new lessons.

Local parents can now find academic support for their children on their doorstep instead of travelling to larger centres in Southend‑on‑Sea or Chelmsford. The change comes amid growing local demand for extra help with schoolwork and preparation for competitive secondary school placements.
