In January 2026, the number of reported crimes in Rayleigh, Essex, fell to 105, marking the lowest monthly total recorded in a year. This drop follows several major policing operations in the area aimed at stopping criminal activity on local roads and within the community.

While overall numbers fell, violence and sexual offences remained the most common report with 44 incidents during the month. Other reported crimes included 12 vehicle thefts, nine instances of other theft, and eight reports of criminal damage and arson.

The Essex Police Road Safety Team carried out a three-day crackdown from 13 January to 15 January 2026. This operation led to 11 arrests for vehicle theft and drug offences, the discovery of a stolen car garage, and the recovery of five vehicles.

Another incident in January 2026 involved a police chase on the A127 near Rayleigh where two women were arrested. According to the Rayleigh Neighbourhood Policing Team, officers seized cash and multiple bags of suspected drugs after a vehicle crashed during the chase.

In February 2026, a local shoplifter was also given a five-year ban from every M&S and BP store in England and Wales. This court order followed an arrest by officers who caught the individual during a theft at a local business.
