The Met Office is predicting a spell of unsettled weather for Rayleigh, Essex, starting from 18 March 2026. This shift is expected to bring persistent rain and strong winds to the community, with the unsettled conditions potentially lasting until 1 April 2026.

Forecasters expect weather patterns to become slower-moving during the second half of the month. This could mean that rainy weather stays over the south of England for longer periods, which increases the risk of local flooding and disruption to outdoor plans.

The ground across the region is already very wet following a high amount of rainfall throughout February 2026. Because the soil is saturated, further heavy rain is likely to stay on the surface and cause issues on the roads rather than soaking away.

A known high-risk area for flooding is the A127 at the Rayleigh Weir underpass, which has been forced to close during similar weather events in the past. Such closures often cause significant delays for local transport, including Arriva bus services on routes 1, 9, and 29.

Residents are also advised to prepare for an increased chance of wintry hazards and below-average temperatures toward the end of March. This may include late-season frost or sleet, which can be damaging to gardens and vulnerable plants that have started to grow during the recent mild weather.
