Families looking for activities during the upcoming May half-term holiday can participate in a new Colour Detectives trail at Basildon Park in Berkshire. The event invites children to explore the manor house and gardens while searching for various colours, patterns, and textures.

The trail will run daily from 23 May to 31 May 2026, between 10:00 and 17:00. To take part, visitors should head to the visitor reception area to pick up a colour match guide, which helps participants identify features ranging from historic wallpaper designs to natural patterns found throughout the estate grounds.

The activity is included free of charge with standard admission, and no advance booking is required. Entry prices are £20 for adults and £10 for children aged 5 to 17, while National Trust members can enter for free. Families planning their visit can also take advantage of the estate’s wider offerings, which include an adventure playground, a ball run, and four waymarked walking routes through the parkland.

Located 7 miles north-west of Reading near the M4, the site is accessible for those travelling by car via junction 12. For visitors arriving by train, the nearest stations are in Pangbourne and Goring, both of which offer taxi services to the estate.
