Reading Borough Council is asking people in Reading, Berkshire, to help tidy up their local areas as part of a national cleaning campaign. The Great British Spring Clean runs from 13 March to 29 March 2026 and encourages residents to clear litter from their streets.

The council is providing free equipment to volunteers who want to take part through the Reading Adopt Your Street scheme. This equipment includes litter pickers, gloves, high-visibility jackets, and bags made from 100 per cent recycled plastic.

Councillor Karen Rowland, who is the lead for environmental services, said the event is a good chance for neighbours and colleagues to come together. She explained that the campaign helps communities work together to make a positive difference to their local environment.

Local residents, schools, and community groups can sign up for the free equipment through the council website. This initiative is designed to help the council’s regular street cleaning teams keep the borough clean throughout the spring.
