The Reading Climate Action Network is inviting local residents, business owners, and community leaders to help shape the town’s environmental future at an upcoming event on 8 June 2026. Taking place at 12:30 midday, the session aims to rally volunteers and partners to support the new Reading Climate Action Plan 2025-2030, which sets an ambitious goal for the borough to reach net zero emissions by 2030.

This event is part of the broader Reading Climate Festival 2026, a town-wide series of activities. The strategy being discussed is the result of a significant public effort, during which over 450 local people participated in a series of surveys, consultations, and youth events throughout 2024 to create a shared vision for the area.

The new action plan focuses on six priority themes: energy and heat, travel and transport, water, beyond waste, nature and open spaces, and food. According to Reading Borough Council, which adopted the plan in November 2025, the town has already achieved a 57% reduction in borough-wide carbon emissions since 2005. The local authority has also reduced its own carbon footprint by 74.3% since 2008/09.

Organisers are now looking for individuals and organisations to step forward as delivery partners, fundraisers, storytellers, and advisers to help implement the specific goals of the plan. Anyone interested in contributing to these climate-friendly initiatives is encouraged to attend the event on 8 June to find out how they can get involved.
