Residents of Reading are invited to an evening of live music and community support as the Mayor of Reading hosts a special fundraising event on 1 May 2026. Held at the historic Reading Town Hall, the event aims to raise vital funds for two local charities chosen by the Mayor.

The event, titled A Celebration of Sound – The Mayor of Reading’s Charity Fundraiser, is being co-organised by Reading Voluntary Action and Reading Borough Council. Doors open at 7pm, with the evening featuring performances from the Reading Community Gospel Choir, Ma Bessie and Her Blues Troupe, and local musician Peter Doyle.

Proceeds from the night will support the chosen charities of the Mayor of Reading, Cllr Dr Alice Mpofu-Coles. Dr Mpofu-Coles, who made history as the first Black woman to serve as the Mayor of Reading, has selected Readifood and the Utulivu Women’s Group as the beneficiaries for her mayoral year. Readifood, which has been operated by the Faith Christian Group since 1996, provides emergency food parcels to roughly 150 households in Reading each week. The Utulivu Women’s Group, established in 2004, offers essential training programmes and support for Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee women and their families.

Tickets for the fundraiser are currently available, with prices set at £18.50 for adults and £13.50 for those under 16. A family ticket option, which covers two adults and two children, can be purchased for £50. Further details regarding the event can be found on the Reading Town Hall website.
