The Batchworth Sea Scouts in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, are calling for more adult volunteers to help get local children off their waiting lists as of January 27, 2026. All sections are operating waiting lists, which means many young people in the area cannot join until more adults sign up to help supervise.

Although the group has doubled its capacity over the last five years, the demand for places is still higher than the number of available helpers. The Watford Observer reports the group operates from its headquarters on Riverside Drive and has run community jumble sales for more than 50 years.

Residents aged 18 and over can apply to help out, and they do not need any previous experience with scouting or water sports. The group provides full training and a mentoring programme for new starters, and volunteers can choose how much time they want to commit based on their own schedules.

This recruitment drive is part of a larger plan by Hertfordshire Scouts to help more children gain important life skills. By finding more leaders, the group hopes to offer its sailing and other water-based activities (for example, sailing and kayaking) to more children who are currently waiting for a spot to open up.

Interested residents can find more information about the group’s registration on the Charity Commission website or apply directly through the scout group. Recruiting more volunteers will allow the group to run more sessions and ensure that local youth do not miss out on outdoor activities.
