The Bury Lake Young Mariners will host their annual community Funday on Sunday 5 July 2026, inviting residents to Rickmansworth Aquadrome for a day of free watersport activities.

Running from 9:30am to 4:00pm, the event offers visitors of all skill levels the opportunity to try paddleboarding, raft building, and boat racing on the water. No prior experience is necessary to participate in the activities, which are managed by the volunteer-run youth charity at their base within the local nature reserve.

The charity, which has been in operation since 1983, relies on a team of over 300 volunteers to support its sailing programmes. In 2013, the group received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, an honour recognised as the highest national award for voluntary groups.

Visitors planning to attend the event should note that the organisation moved to a cashless payment system in early 2026. All on-site transactions now require the use of a physical bank card or a contactless device.

The Aquadrome, which is managed by Three Rivers District Council, is currently the site of ongoing improvement works. While the grounds remain open, the Ebury Play Area has been closed since January 2025 due to the presence of Japanese knotweed. Remediation work at the play area began in March 2026 and is expected to conclude by early July 2026.
